Greenland's southernmost marathon is located in the breathtaking Tasermiut Fjord (called Tasermijit in the local South Greenlandic dialect). Run partially on gravel roads built by inuit sheep farmers in the early 2000's, and partially on natural Arctic valley terrain with lush vegetation, the marathon route gives incredible views of a glaciated fjordscape, high-peaked mountains and remote living.

Three beautiful running routes
The 42 km marathon route starts in Tasiusaq settlement, goes uphill to finally crest at a gorgeous overlook over Tasermiut Fjord, downhill toward Nuugaarsuk Sheep Farm, all the way to Kuussuaq (the big river) and starting the lakeside return route along Tasersuaq (the big lake), past Saputit Tasia Sheep Farm and all the way to the water. You can actually see Tasiusaq settlement across the bay, but to get back there to the finish line, you must backtrack the whole route again!
The half marathon route (actually 22 km) follows the same as the marathon route. When passing Saputit Tasia Sheep Farm and approaching the bay, you continue on the road along the bay, past Saputit Sheep Farm and back toward Tasiusaq settlement to cross the finish line.
The 10 km route gives you a little taste of the Tasiusaq backcountry. You leave town along with the marathon and half marathon runners, following the road 5 km, a bit uphill, until you reach a lake. There you turn and return to Tasiusaq settlement to cross the finish line.

Where to Stay
You have three primary choices of where to stay in the general vicinity of Tasiusaq to start the Tasermijit Marathon. The closest option is to stay in Tasiusaq settlement itself. It is also possible to stay in a tent camp or cabins about 11 km away at Kuussuaq (the big river), further into Tasermiut Fjord, accessible by foot on gravel road. Finally, it is also possible to stay in the town of Nanortalik just outside the mouth of Tasermiut Fjord, about 15 nm / 40 minutes away, accessible by boat.
